Tales of the Talmidim
Listen for the Shofar of Rosh Hashanah!
The Master Comes Back
Once when they were talking, the Talmidim asked the Master when they day of Messiah would come.
Yeshua told his Talmidim, "The Messiah will appear in the sky and everyone will see him coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud shofar blast, and they will gather his people from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other."
After he left them, the Talmidim began to watch for his return. "How long will he be gone?" they wondered. "I wonder if he will come soon."
The Talmidim went all over the world to tell everyone the good news about Yeshua, but everywhere they went, they were always watching and waiting. They wondered, "When will Messiah come?" "He could come at any moment," they said. They were always listening for the far off sound of shofar blowing.
After many years, the first Talmidim grew old and died and still the Master did not come back. Only Talmid Yochanon (John) was still alive, and he was a very old man. When he was old, the Romans arrested him. Soldiers put John onto a boat and brought him to a barren rocky prison island. "You will die on this island, old man." the soldiers told him. They sailed away, and they left John.
Yochanon felt all alone. Then he remembered the Master's promise to come back. "Maybe he will come soon." John thought.
One Sabbath day on the rocky island John was walking and praying when he suddenly heard a voice like a shofar behind him. He turned around in surprise. It was the Master! He came to show Yochanon that he was coming back soon. "Yes I am coming soon," he told John.
That is why we hope and listen for his shofar. It could blow at any minute! He is coming back soon. Are you ready? How can we get ready for the Master to come?
