Tales of the Talmidim
Once the Master was teaching many, many people out in the countryside. They were a long walk from home. Soon it was dinner time and everyone was hungry. No one had brought any food. No one, that is, except for one young boy who had brought five small loaves of bread and two little fish. The bread and fish was his food, and he was hungry. But when he saw that Yeshua and the Talmidim were asking for food for everyone, he remembered the mitzvah of giving a part to the LORD first. He thought, "I should give to the LORD first and worry about what I will eat later." He gave his loaves and fishes to the Talmid Andrew, and Andrew gave it to Yeshua. "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how will it be enough for so many people?" Andrew asked the Master. Yeshua took the loaves, said the blessing for bread, and began to break it into pieces. He kept breaking it and breaking it, but it never seemed to run out. He did the same with the fish. All the thousands of people had plenty of pieces to eat! When they had all had enough to eat, he said to the Talmidim, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Don't waste any!" So they gathered all the leftover pieces and filled twelve baskets with them. That was much more than the boy had brought! And he had pleny to eat. Why did the boy share his food? How many baskets were gathered up? How many Talmidim were there? |
