Middot U'Mitzvot: Character Qualities and Commandments
Honesty - Being Truthful

G-d's Torah is the best source of instruction
in character qualities and holy living

Honesty - Being Truthful

“You are not to have in your pack two sets of weights, one heavy, the other light…for…all who deal dishonestly are detestable to the L-RD your God.” Deuteronomy 25:13, 16

Ever try to “pull one over” on someone? Fudge just a bit on a promise you made? Or, settle for “good enough” instead of doing your best? Ever heard of the expression “a lie is a lie is a lie…even if it is ‘just a little’ one”? Lying or cheating or “I wasn’t lying, I just didn’t tell the truth” all miss the mark in God’s eyes. Being dishonest in anyway falls short of the expectations that God has for His children. Even if nobody else knows what you did, or didn’t do, – God knows. Even if you didn’t hurt anybody – it hurt God. We are to love others as Yeshua loves us and we are to treat others as Yeshua treats us. Was Yeshua ever dishonest? No! He always told the truth and He always lived the truth. And, if we are supposed to live our lives just like Yeshua lived His, then we ought to always be telling and living the truth too. So, is there anything you need to make right today by telling someone the truth and being honest?

Reaching Out By Drawing In - Let Your Light Shine

“…it is by means of their (the Jewish people) stumbling that deliverance has come to the Gentiles, in order to provoke them to jealousy.” Romans 11:11

The way God works is amazing! If the Jewish people had not rejected Messiah Yeshua – God’s plan of salvation may never have unfolded and it may never have spread out to the ends of the earth. Today we have come full circle. Now is the time for us as both Jewish and non-Jewish believers to let the light of Messiah shine in our lives so brightly that He attracts His chosen people and draws them back to Him. When we live our lives according to God’s Torah we look different to the rest of the world. Others, especially the Jewish people, should notice that difference. They should see Messiah in us. They should detect a joy and a peace about us that they themselves are longing for. And, when they recognize Messiah Yeshua in us they will inevitably want to know more about Him. So, begin reaching out to those around you by drawing them to the light of Yeshua that lives in you!

Contentment - Trusting God

“Keep your lives free from the love of money; and be satisfied with what you have; for God Himself has said, ‘I will never fail you or abandon you.’” Hebrews 13:5

Are you always looking to get the next newest, hottest game or fad or fashion? Does more, more, more never seem to be enough? As children of God and followers of Yeshua our focus is not to be on the things of this world – on money, fame, or fortune. Our focus is to be solely on God – solely on Messiah Yeshua. Things and stuff and material possessions only distract us from drawing closer to God and getting to know Him better. And, God not only fills you up, He never lets you down. Stock markets crash, clothes wear out, cars (even sports cars) breakdown, video games get lost, and friends move away. But, God will always be there – no matter what. If you are searching for satisfaction, if you are looking for contentment in this life – look to God. Seek the Lord and put your trust in Him, for it is He, and only He, who can give you your heart’s desire – satisfaction guaranteed!
